Miscarriage is a devastating complication that unfortunately affects about a sixth (15%) of pregnancies.
The vast majority of these are due to abnormal developments of the baby and one could say miscarriage in such situations is nature’s way of ensuring such abnormal pregnancies do not continue to develop.
Some women unfortunately experience repeated miscarriages (recurrent miscarriage) and this can be extremely distressing for affected women and frustrating for their healthcare providers.
We know half of couples with recurrent miscarriage have an underlying cause for the miscarriages and that the vast majority of these can be treated to improve the outcome of future pregnancies.
We therefore provide a full screening service that includes:
o Outpatient consultations and ultrasound scans
o Full hormonal screen
o Testing for inherited and acquired thrombophilias
o Testing maternal and paternal chromosomal Karyotypes
o Outpatient Hydrosonography
We provide an evidence based approach to treating recurrent miscarriage and do not just offer psychedelic or unproven interventions.
Treatment modalities that we consider in certain circumstances include:
o Aspirin and Heparin in early pregnancy
o Hormonal interventions in early pregnancy
o Laparoscopic cervical cerclage in-between pregnancies
